How Glim uses AI
In every Glim film, the photos are animated with AI. AI can also create an opening, growing-up transitions and a personal song, if you choose them. Here is exactly what happens to your photos, what is checked, and what Glim doesn't do.
Where AI is used in your film
- The animations. Each photo you choose becomes a few seconds of gentle movement. Today that is done by Kuaishou's Kling video model, through the provider KIE.ai.
- An opening and growing-up transitions, if you choose them. The same model creates the film's AI opening, and the transition from a photo of someone at one age to a photo of them at another. In some opening styles, such as “Darkroom” and “Old projector”, Google's Nano Banana image model first builds a scene around your photo, also through KIE.ai.
- Planning the transitions. A model that reads both photos suggests how to move from one to the other (Google's or OpenAI's, through KIE.ai).
- A personal song, if you choose one. A Google language model writes the words from what you wrote in the questionnaire, and the song is sung in an AI-generated voice (Suno), not the voice of a real person. Both run through KIE.ai. You can also pick a song from the library, or upload your own.
- Restoring an old photo, without AI. Only if you ask for it on a specific photo. Today it runs on our own server: we bring back faded colours, even out the contrast, soften the grain, sharpen a little and enlarge a small scan. The restored photo is kept next to the original, and you can switch back.
- The in-app assistant. It answers with a language model, through KIE.ai, from our guides and the state of your project. At any point you can ask to talk to a person on the team.
- Photo checks. Amazon Rekognition checks the content of photos, on servers in Tel Aviv, and an identity check on our own server compares the face in each animation with the face in the photo.
What happens to your photos
- Photos, animations and films are stored on Amazon Web Services servers in Tel Aviv.
- An AI provider gets only the photo, or the pair of photos, its task needs, through a link that expires after two hours at most. For a personal song it gets only what you wrote in the questionnaire, no photos. The models may process the task outside Israel.
- Glim doesn't train models on your photos and doesn't sell data. Under KIE.ai's terms, it may use the content it receives to run and improve its service.
- The full detail, provider by provider, is in the privacy policy.
What is checked, and who decides
An animation is an AI model's interpretation of a photo: sometimes a movement won't look natural, or a detail in a face will change. So every animation goes through a content check, and an animation of a photo with a face is also checked against the photo. A creation that fails or is stopped by a check returns the animation to your balance automatically, and every package includes as many free retries as it has animations.
Two decisions are made automatically: the content check may stop a photo, and the device check may prevent another free trial. Either way, you can contact us and ask for a person to review it.
What Glim doesn't do
- It doesn't swap faces, and doesn't add anyone who wasn't in the photo.
- It doesn't clone voices, and doesn't put words in anyone's mouth.
- It doesn't allow deepfakes: you may not use Glim to impersonate someone, or to show something that didn't happen as if it did.
The animation adds gentle movement to people who are already in your photos.
Labelling AI-made content
The example photos and videos on this site were made with AI, and the people in them are fictional: they aren't customers, or real people at all. Each one is marked as an example, and the files themselves (AVIF and WebP images and MP4 videos) also carry the standard IPTC label that says they were made with AI.
Films made in Glim from now on carry the same label, inside the file, with nothing changed in what you see. Older films stay as they were. In a film's download window in Glim, you can also add a short card at its end, “Made with AI in Glim”. It's off by default, and isn't offered on a memorial film.
If you post a Glim film on YouTube or another network, check its rules for AI-made content: some ask you to label it.
